Buying golf grips: size, material and feel
The grip is the only connection between you and the club. A worn grip or one of the wrong thickness costs you control, often without you noticing. With a fresh grip that fits, an old club feels like new again.
Which grip size fits your hand?
- Undersize or Lady for small hands.
- Standard for most golfers with medium-sized hands.
- Midsize for larger hands or if you tend to grip the club too tightly.
- Jumbo and Oversize for very large hands and for golfers with joint problems. There are special grips for arthritis for this.
Rule of thumb: if the fingertips of your top hand just touch the palm, the size is right.
Rubber, cord or hybrid?
Rubber grips are soft and comfortable. Cord grips with woven-in fibres stay secure even in rain and with sweaty hands. Hybrid grips combine both: cord on top for control, rubber below for feel. Popular models can be found at Golf Pride and in our large range of grips for irons, wedges, woods and drivers.
Putters need their own grips
Putter grips are often thicker and have a flat top so your hands stay quiet. Thick putter grips reduce wrist action during the stroke.
Change them yourself
With a grip kit including tape and solvent you can replace grips yourself in a few minutes. If you would rather not do it yourself, we will do the regripping for you.
How often should I change my grips?
If you play regularly, about once a year or after around 40 rounds. At the latest when the grip has become slippery, cracked or hard.
Do extra layers of tape make the grip thicker?
Yes. Each additional layer of tape under the grip makes it slightly thicker, so the size can be fine-tuned.
